Formation of a Balanced System of Indicators for Regional Potential

Abstract
This article presents the results of a study aimed at applying methods for selecting and optimizing indicators used to assess regional potential. The main purpose of the study is to create a balanced system of indicators that will allow for an in-depth analysis of socio-economic development, while minimizing data redundancy. The research is based on multidimensional statistical analysis methods such as principal component analysis and correlation analysis. At the first stage, key indicators were identified that make the most significant contribution to explaining data variability. As a result, a set of ten express indicators reflecting major aspects of regional development was formed. In the second stage, correlation analysis was performed to identify and eliminate variables with high interdependence. This allowed minimizing the problem of multicollinearity and increasing the interpretability of the results. During the study, a set indicators was developed that allows us to comprehensively characterise the socio-economic development of regions and to avoid the problem of multi-collinearity. The novelty of this work lies in creating a methodology for forming an optimal set of indicators for regional potential. This approach takes into account both statistical relationships between variables and expert assessments of the significance of each indicator. The practical importance of this study is that it provides a basis for further modelling and assessment of regional potentials, as well as the development of efficient methods for managing socio-economic developments in territories. The results obtained can be used in analytical work by state and municipal authorities as well as in scientific research in the field of regional economics.
